SATs are over!
We are now if full swing rehearsal mode for our production of 'Reach for the Sky'. We are also going to be lots of work with the younger children in the school and preparing for secondary school.
Longrigg is also just around the corner.
Take a look below at all the exciting learning that has been going on...
In Year 6 we have been studying 'Stormbreaker' and 'Kensuke's Kingdom' in our Literacy sets and have been doing lots of exciting writing and reading activities based on these texts.
On World Book Day, we brought a copy of our favourite book in and discussed why we liked it.
We then chose from a range of creative tasks to complete based on our book; many of us decided to story board the events in the story, creating a cartoon strip, as well create a 3D alternative book cover, complete with spine and blurb.
These are on display across year 6.
We had great fun dressing up as our favourite characters too!
Look at some of the pictures below...
This term in Science, we have been learning about: teeth, forces, sound, dissolving and space. In Falcons, we used ICT to research the Transatlantic Tunnel proposal and MagLev trains to relate our science learning on forces to the real world. We then chose how to present our ideas.
As well as using ICT in our science learning, we have been carrying out lots of investigations that we have planned ourselves. We really enjoy being able to do practical experiments to reinforce our learning.
Take a look at us in action below...
We have been very bust in art, learning lots of new techniques from the very talented Mrs Lee!
We have learnt how to draw portraits accurately and had a go at sketching Nelson Mandela's Portrait.
We have also been refining our use of pastels and how to shade and use colour effectively.
We were very lucky that at the end of last half term, PC Hipkin and his team of Police Community Support Officers visited us in school to teach us about internet safety, gun and knife crime and anti-social behaviour.
They taught us what the law is and what to do if we ever found ourselves in a difficult and dangerous situation. We were all shocked that the legal age you can be arrested is 10!
It really opened our eyes!
In PE, we have been learning about lots of different styles of dance from different cultures.
Take a look at us learning the Haka and 'Cats the Musical' dances below.
They were great fun to learn!
Both Falcons and Kestrels had a wonderful time constructing bridges from tetrahedrons that we constructed. We worked in teams to design bridges and worked out how we could suspend them off the ground. We learnt a lot about tension, constructing 3D shapes as well as the how the force of gravity affects objects. We really enjoyed this practical side of maths!
Falcons had a wonderful time working alongside Year 1, helping them to create their 'Superhero' costumes and play some team building games. The year 6 children conducted themselves in an exemplary manner, setting an excellent example to the younger children as well as helping them with their sewing skills! It was a pleasure to watch them work so nicely with the younger children; they got a lot out of it.
