Welcome to Year 5!
In Autumn our topic is 'Off with her Head!'
We will be learning about the Tudors and exploring the social, religious and political features of the time. We will also be learning about the human and physical features of London during the Tudor era and comparing it to modern day. In English, we will be reading ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by William Shakespeare, as well as writing a biography of Shakespeare’s life. We will also be extending our knowledge of SPaG skills and applying these into various genres of writing. In maths, we will be focusing on place value, calculation, statistics, time, perimeter and area. In science, we will be will be learning about ‘Properties and change of materials’. Our computing lessons will have a focus on how ‘To Connect’ with others using computers and different technology. Our Art and DT lessons will be linked to our Tudor topic: printing with ink, creating collages and baking Tudor biscuits. In PSHE, we will be learning about what it means to be part of our community, working together as a class, learning more about one another and our rights and responsibilities. We will be learning about Islamic beliefs and how they are conveyed in RE, reflecting upon the religion as a whole. Finally, in PE the children will be improving their skills in health and fitness, gymnastics, cross country and netball as well as performing Tudor and ballroom dances.
