Welcome to Year 5!
In Spring our topic is 'Invaders and Settlers!'
We will be learning about the Viking and Anglo-Saxon invasion of England, investigating how England was divided and ruled. We will also be looking at how North and South America were colonised and will be studying the human and physical characteristics of these continents. In English, we will be reading ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ by Michael Morpurgo and ‘How to Train your Dragon’ by Cressida Cowell and will be using these texts to extend our SPAG knowledge and our creative writing. In Maths, we will be revisiting place value and the formal written methods for each operation and begin the term with a big focus on fractions. We will also focus on decimals, percentages and geometry too this term. Through our Viking topic, we will be developing our knowledge of ‘2code’. We will use digital media to create a range of art forms and to programme a Viking voyage. We will also be taking inspiration from history by designing and constructing our own Viking boats that can be sailed. For PSHE, we will be learning about how we can make and sustain friendships, resolve conflicts by ourselves and we will continue to focus on anti-bullying and Mind to be Kind. We will also be learning about keeping ourselves safe at home and outdoors. In RE, we will continue to look at the beliefs, teachings, practices and lifestyles of the religion of Islam.
