This term our topic is...

The World of Beatrix Potter

We will be learning all about the life of Beatrix Potter through our English and topic lessons. This term we will be reading 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit' and other tales written by Beatrix Potter.

This term we also have our very exciting 'Night Under Canvas' event.

Summer 1

This term our topic is...

Going Wild!

We are starting our topic off with a trip to Whipsnade Zoo on Wednesday 27th April and Thursday 28th April. We are very excited to be going to see wild animals up close and learning about the habitats they live in.

Wow! What an amazing trip we had to Whipsnade Zoo!

The children had a fantastic time and learnt so much about animals from around the world. They behaved beautifully and both staff from Whipsnade and members of the public commented on how super polite and well they represented our school.

We did a lot of walking each day and we all came home feeling very tired with achy feet!

Well done to both the staff and children!

We are really enjoying running the Golden Mile each day!

Now that the weather has improved we are really enjoying getting outside for PE lessons. In Year 2 we have been practicing our throwing and catching skills and working as a team to play games.

Spring 2

This term we have been learning all about Incredible Inventions!

We started the topic with a home learning project where the children were asked to research an invention of their choice and put together a short presentation to share with the class.

This was a fantastic speaking and listening opportunity and we all learnt so much about the different inventions that we had researched. Many of us really enjoyed being a teacher for a few minutes!

Welcome to spring term!

This term our topic is Marvellous Medicine!

To start our topic we were lucky enough to be visited by Lucy the nurse. We have learnt lots about being a nurse and David and Beth even had their leg bandaged up!

During our R.E lessons year 2 have been learning about Christingles. We have been looking at the different parts and what they mean.  We have even made our own Christingles and learnt a song about them. Have a look at the pictures below.
Year two have been been working really hard and learning lots of new computing skills.  The children have been creating mini movies and trailers to showcase some of the fantastic things they have learnt this half term.  The children have have had to work really hard but I am sure you will agree the end results are worth it! The movies have had to be shortened to fit on the website so may look a little different to how the children remember it.  Enjoy their efforts!

We had lots of fun baking bread in the bakery on Pudding Lane. We discussed how our bakery was very different to Thomas Farynor's back in 1666. Throughout the day we had lots of fun and enjoyed getting our hands a little mucky!

During our Great Fire of London day the children took part in many exciting activities. One of these involved a dance and drama workshop.  The children had the opportunity to explore movement and create a dance.

11.11.15 - Remembrance Day. We have had a lovely day learning all about why we celebrate Remembrance Day. Woodpeckers enjoyed creating their own poppies to wear and working together to create our own poppy wreath.

In Autumn 2 Year 2 are learning all about...

The Great Fire of London

This is an exciting topic which we started our learning off with an exciting day at school on Tuesday 10th November. This day was full of creative activities, drama, art and baking to help 'hook' the children into the topic. Many children chose to dress up in costumes and they looked absolutely fantastic!

As part of this we are sending home an extended homework project where the children will be asked to create a model of London on Fire.  Please start saving cereal boxes and kitchen roll tubes to help to create your models! This homework will be set on Friday 13th November and completed models will be displayed around the school from Monday 14th December.

We really enjoyed dressing up like someone from 1666, it really got us thinking about what it would have been like at the time of The Great Fire!

As part of the exciting day we learnt how to create silhouette pictures of London on fire.

We have started off our Great Fire of London topic by sharing our home learning projects with our English groups. All the children worked so hard to find out about The Great Fire of London and everyone presented their learning in original ways. Well done Year 2, we are very proud of you!

On Tuesday 3rd November Year 2 had an exciting RE day filled with learning all about important symbols from different religions. We had lots of fun!

During Autumn 1 our topic was

It's Great to be Me!

Through this topic we learnt lots about our bodies but also about where we live. We went on a walk of our local area and we learnt about the history of Middleton.

Our walk around Middleton

Following our walk, the children in Woodpeckers were busy sketching and using watercolors to create images of buildings around the local area.
