Thursday 16th July 2020

WALT investigate acids and bases in chemical reactions.

Today’s science is the last science lesson of home-learning and I want it to be a little investigation for you. You are going to need the following items to complete this:

  • Cranberry juice
  • Lemon juice
  • Baking Soda
  • Vinegar
  • Coke – or any fizzy drink!
  • Baking Powder.

What do cranberries and chameleons have in common? They can both change color! Cranberries contain chemicals called anthocyanins, which change color depending on how acidic their surroundings are. (They are natural pH indicators!) Since cranberries are naturally acidic, they normally look red, but can you neutralize the acid to find the berry's true colors?

You must have an adult with you when completing this investigation today! Open the documents below to find out more!
