WALT predict the story of our new book “Cosmic.”

Welcome back to Year 5 home-learning. We hope you had a lovely May half- term break. This term, we are going to start a new book called Cosmic written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce.

Before we start reading the book, I would like you infer what the book might be about. Open the document below to see the Chill Challenges and get started!

WALT identify persuasive devices within adverts.

Today’s learning is all about persuasion. We are going to have a look at some adverts and how they are designed to persuade the target audience to buy something. By looking at this, we are going to make our own persuasive adverts today and tomorrow.

Thursday 4th June 2020

WALT write an advert for a ride using persuasive devices.

Today, we are going to create an advert for the ride Cosmic. You will need to use your description of the ride from Tuesday’s lesson and the text to create the advert.

Friday 5th June 2020

WALT retrieve information from a chapter of a book.

Today’s English task is reading focused. You will need to read the chapter from Cosmic called ‘I nearly shaved myself to death’ (pages 21 – 33). Then, when you have finished reading the chapter, log in to Purple Mash and complete the quiz in your alerts.

Mr Morris has tested this quiz and it should work (fingers crossed). Be careful with your spelling of words when typing in your answers!

Please also bare in mind that if you do not score more than 10, we will be sending your work back as a redo. Use the book carefully to help you work out the answers to the reading comprehension.

If you have any problems with it, please let us know on the blogs. Good Luck! blush
