WALT apply our reading skills to a comprehension paper.
Today, we would like you to have a go at completing the reading comprehension below. It has been a while since we completed a reading comprehension not based on our book 'The Lie Tree' and I think this mystery story is a perfect opportunity to practise your reading skills.

WALT summarise a section of a story.
Over the weekend, I was thinking back to 'The Lie Tree' and about the story so far. We are now about 1/3 of the way through the book and although it does not seem like much has happened, lots of little things have been occurring. For today's reading lesson, I would like you to summarise the story so far, thinking about what we know about the characters, the setting, the plot and how the characters interact with one another. Please also feel free to comment on whether you are enjoying the book (or not) but justify your comment with a reason!
Your summary should not be more than a page of writing long so you are going to have to precis your information carefully!
Superb work with your learning on the Lie Tree over the past 4 weeks. You have done an amazing job with the challenging language of the story. We have reached the end of our online learning with The Lie Tree and we are going to continue this book when we get back to school.
In its place, we have chosen a new book for us to look at in our online learning. We will be looking at 'How to Train Your Dragon' by Cressida Cowell. Like the Lie Tree, this book will be available as an ebook on Purple Mash for you to access.
We hope you continue your amazing effort in your reading lessons and enjoy the new book too. We can't wait to see what fantastic work you complete!

WALT predict and deduce information from the cover of a book.
Today, we are going to be starting a new book called 'How to Train your Dragon' written by Cressida Cowell. We are going to be predicting from the front cover of the book. Please do not think that it is what the film is about because you would be WRONG!!! Treat this as a brand new story and have a go from the cover what you think it would be about. The document below contains the activity sheets you will need to complete the lesson.

WALT retrieve information from a text and understand its vocabulary.
You will not need the ebook for today's English lesson. In the document below, I have given you some questions based on a small preamble at the beginning of the story. I would like you to find the answers to the questions in the text provided and underline them so we know where you found your answers from.

BOOK CLUB DAY
There is no reading lesson as such today, but use this opportunity to head over to the Book Club Blogs and listen to your Book. I know they are all getting really good and I am excited to see what happens next in many of the stories!
