WALT: Write for a purpose

Drew Daywalt wrote a sequel, ‘The Day the Crayons Came Home’. Listen to the story. Can you spot any familiar characters?

'The Day the Crayons Came Home'

How is this book similar/different to ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’? Which one do you prefer?

Today, we would like you to write a new postcard as another crayon. You could choose one of the coloured crayons from the 'Day the Crayons Quit'. Perhaps you could use one of the colours from yesterday's lesson.

Think about:

  • What was the crayon last used for?
  • Where was the crayon left?
  • What happened to the crayon?
  • Why does the crayon want to come back?

Fill out this template to write your postcard. Can you draw a picture to go on the front?

Write your own postcard or use the 2Do on Purple Mash. Choose the success criteria you want to challenge yourself with. You can use the template to help you write your postcard. Don't forget to draw or paste a picture for the front of your postcard.

We can't wait to read your postcards to find out what your crayons got up to.
