To celebrate Black History Month, this has been a focus for all year groups in their learning. In Year 1, they have learnt about the slave ship of Amistad. Year 2 has focussed on the amazing work of Mary Seacole and Year 3 has analysed a range of primary sources, including extracts from Frederick Douglas’ autobiography, to improve their understanding of slavery. Year 4 has been busy learning about Rosa Parks. They researched the heroic activist and then, as part of their English lesson, they wrote some fantastic diary entries from her point of view. Year 5 has studied Nelson Mandela and Year 6 has researched athlete Jesse Owens who was a four-time Olympic gold medallist in the 1936 games.
