Mrs Moffatt's positive thoughts

Mrs Moffatt would like to share some positive thoughts through this difficult time. There is a blog set up in purple mash if you would like to reply or send your own positive messages!
Just a quick note to say that I have enjoyed doing the Positivity Blog for you all over the past few weeks. Now I am back in school I won't be posting daily, but keep checking back as I will add to it from time to time.

In the meantime if you are looking for ideas of something to do, check back over the many suggestions already here, you may find something to challenge yourself with or you could even try an activity again.

Stay safe and well everyone. Keep learning!

an author,      a celebrity,      a town in England,      name of a flower,

Song title,       Make of car,       a famous person from history,

Girls name,      Boys name,      a sport,      a food, cake or biscuit,

Film title,        Disney character

It's half term next week, enjoy the sun, stay safe & well and remember the social distancing rules. If you need something to do have a look back at some of the previous suggestions here. Try one that you haven't done already or challenge yourself to improve on a previous attempt.

Thursday 21st May

Make a bunch of paper flowers to brighten someones day. You could use magazines, newspaper, old wrapping paper, old books or design your own on any card or paper you have to hand. Once you are finished add a stem of rolled paper or a straw and deliver them. It could be to your mum, a neighbour or a member of your family you see from a distance. Many websites are available for various designs. This one has templates and instructions to help you.

Monday 18th May

“Be brave. Take risks. Nothing can substitute experience.”

 Paulo Coelho

Write a story – my story opener is

I came home from school, dropped my bag on the floor by the door and went into the kitchen to get a snack and a drink. The dog was lying asleep, snoring quietly in his basket. Wait…. I don’t have a dog…

Remember plan your plot. Use the success criteria you use in your writing in school, have a beginning, a middle and an end, include speech and remember your tenses. Aim for at least 300 words which is not as hard as you think. Don’t do it all at once, just keep adding to it. You never know it may turn out to be your first novel!

If you don’t want to use my opener think of one of your own.

Thursday 7th May

Tomorrow is the 75th Anniversary of V E Day and under normal circumstances we would have had a day off school to celebrate this special day.  I thought this picture symbolises not only events of the wars but also what we are dealing with at the present time. Tonight when you clap for the carers also think about those in history who have made the world a better and safer place for us to live in.

Street parties and family get-togethers would have probably been planned for tomorrow and the weekend, there is a 2 minute silence at 11 am tomorrow on our doorsteps and a toast to the Heros of WW2 at 3 pm. To join in - make some union flag style bunting and put it in your windows or gardens. There are numerous sites you can google for free V E Day bunting templates or you could design and make your own.

Have fun and stay safe.

“The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So, write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can.”

Neil Gaiman

Write a letter. It could be to a family member who you have not seen for a while. Tell them what you have been doing to keep yourself busy and what you are looking forward to when lock down is over. It could be a 'thank you' to someone you know who is working very hard being a key worker or a letter to one of your friends who you haven't seen for a while. If you can't post it send it by email, brighten someone's day and you never know they may send you one back!

Tuesday 5th May

"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward"

Martin Luther King Jr.

Today try the game "20 Questions"

This can be played in a group or with just one other person. The question master thinks of a person or thing and the others have to guess what or who it is. They are only allowed to ask questions that would get a yes or no answer. The others must guess the answer by the 20th question. If you are playing in a group the first person to guess the correct answer gets to pick the next item to be guessed. Have fun!

Monday 4th May

May the 4th be with you! Happy Star Wars Day.

Create a Star Wars quiz and challenge a fan. Use the internet or your knowledge of all the movies. Send me some of your questions, I love a challenge!

Friday 1st May

“Search for the seed of good in every adversity."

Og Mandino

How many words can you make using the letters from “procrastinating”? Look the word up in a dictionary or online and tell me what it means.

Have a good weekend and stay safe.

Thursday 30th April

“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow”

Today is Captain Tom Moore’s 100th birthday. We all know that he has raised millions of pounds for the NHS by walking round his garden and that he lives not far from here in Marston Moretaine with his daughter and her family. I would like to know 5 other interesting facts about him and his life.

Wednesday 29th April

"every child is an artist"

Pablo Picasso

Draw a portrait – it could be a self-portrait, one of someone in your family, or maybe your pet. You could even search online for photographs of famous people and use them for inspiration. If you google “drawing ideas with pencil” there are some beautiful examples and ideas. Let your creative side out! And as always I would love to see your work. Don't forget Mr. Higgs has a very big wall in his office which needs filling with your artwork.

Tuesday 28th April

“It takes both rain and sunshine to make a rainbow”

Today at 11 o’clock the UK are observing a 1 minute silence to honour those people who have lost their lives while caring for people with CV19.

My task for you is to write a poem. You might like to write one in their honour or perhaps how you are feeling now not being able to see family, friends or be at school. I would love to read what you have written.

Monday 27th April

"It always seems impossible until it’s done"

Nelson Mandela

Choose a subject – animals, girls names, colours, Countries - see if you can think of one for each letter of the alphabet. Time yourself to see how long it takes you to complete all the letters. Set someone else a challenge. It’s harder than you think!

Friday 24th April

" you are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it come true"

Do you, like me, keep thinking of all those things you would like to do but can't at the minute because of social distancing?

I have decided that I am going to make a family wish jar. Every time one of us thinks 'I wish I could...' we are going to write it on a post-it note and put it in the jar. We are going to keep adding them and when this has all finished we will pick out a wish and enjoy making it happen together. There are some great online ideas for decorating your jar (or you could use a box, whatever you have to hand). It could be for everyone in your house or you could just do one for yourself.

Have fun!

Thursday 23rd April

“Somewhere someone else is happy with less than you have”

Create a collage – it could be of anything – a portrait, your garden, bedroom, a rainbow for your window or your favourite holiday place. Use whatever materials you have at home – old magazines, newspapers, material/fabric scarps or old wrapping/tissue paper. Send me a photograph.

Wednesday 22nd April

“The Earth is what we all have in common”

 Wendell Berry

Perhaps you could build a bug house or maybe a hotel! Choose a place in sunlight or light shade. Use whatever is lying around in your garden: old plant stems, pine cones, bits of bark. You maybe able to pick up some extra bits when you are out on your daily walk. A roof of tiles will keep things dry. Frogs, ladybirds and other insects will love it.

Check out this website for more ideas

Tuesday 21st April

"If you can dream it, you can do it"

Walt Disney

Learn origami. There are lots of great sites on the internet. Start easy and progress to harder! Perhaps you could send me a picture, I would love to see your projects.

Monday 20th April

"You have brains in your head,

You have feet in your shoes,

you can steer yourself any direction you choose"

Lets get those brains working on this beautiful sunny morning!

Play Countdown. You can either go online

or choose your own numbers (6 numbers – can be single or double digit) and a 3 figure total sum. You can also try letters (9 including consonants & vowels)

Don’t forget to time yourself!

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly."

Make a paper aeroplane. Check out instructions here or Google your own

"Remember to fall asleep with a dream and wake up with a purpose"

Create a secret code – use numbers, letters, switch the alphabet around or try a tricky one with symbols

Decipher mine using this code -

a=26, b=25, c=24, d=23, e=22 and so on counting backwards all the way to z=1

Try and decipher mine:

2,22,26,9    8,18,3    2,12,6    26,9,22    26,4,22,8,12,14,22!

18    14,18,8,8     8,22,22,18,13,20      2,12,6    22,15,15

"Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud"

Paint or colour a rainbow and put it in your window. You could maybe write a message to say thank-you to the postman, delivery driver, dustbin men etc

Make a den

It could be inside or outside with whatever equipment/material you have to hand.

Then spend some time in it reading, having a snack or playing. But remember the golden rule -tidy everything away when you are finished!

Have fun!

It’s Monday!

Let’s get creative.

Type into Google ‘let’s draw a..”  you can choose anything you want - a car, a horse, Mickey Mouse.

It’s great fun.

I will post my efforts later. Let me see what you can do
