WALT: Be mindful of our impact on others

As you know from last week, our value of the month is mindfulness.

If you haven’t already, listen to ‘Bloom’ by Anne Booth.

Listen to 'Bloom' by Anne Booth

In the story, the young girl’s positive words of encouragement allowed the flower to flourish and be at its best. However, the old man’s unkindness caused the flower to wilt.

It is important to be mindful of the positive or negative affect our words can have on others.

  • Think of a time when someone said something nice to you. How did it make you feel?
  • Now think about how it feels when someone says something that is not very nice.

Make your own mystery message card

Today, we are going to write an uplifting, secret message to a family member or friend on a beautiful flower.  When you pop it in a bowl of water, it opens up to reveal a secret message.

Watch the video on the Blue Peter website to show you how to make your blooming flowers. Write a thoughtful message that will bring joy to your family member or friend so that they ‘bloom’ just like the flower in our story.
