WALT: solve problems involving fractions

We would love if you could join us for our live lesson this morning at 11.00am. For our last maths lesson of this half term and our final lesson on Fractions you will have a choice of different activities which will be explained during the live lesson.

If you cannot join us this time, please work through the PowerPoint below and choose a challenge to work through before submitting your work to Purple Mash.

Independent Activities

For your final task on Fractions, we would like you to pretend you work for BBC Bitesize and you have been asked to produce an educational poster or PowerPoint to support home learning on Fractions.

Think about:

  • Unit and non unit fractions
  • Finding fractions of shapes
  • Equivalent Fractions
  • Finding tenths
  • Adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator
  • Finding fractions of quantities
  • Comparing and ordering fractions

Can you be a teacher and explain each aspect AND include an example?

You can choose one, OR a couple of different areas of learning OR cover all of them. Look back over the previous lessons & video tutorials to support you.

THEN...

Pick a Fraction Investigation to complete:

* MILD - Fraction Picnic

** SPICY -  Baking Investigation - Finding fractions of amounts   (Unit fractions)

*** HOT -  Baking Investigation - Finding fractions of amounts (non unit fractions)
