WALT: use VIPERS to answer questions and use inference skills

Here is a comprehension for your English lesson. Use the VIPERS to help you and if you finish, write some of your own questions and post them to see if we can answer them?


I have also set you some spellings this week based on the vocabulary from the reading comprehension. You will need to write the definition and try and put them into your own sentences. I will test you on these spelling on Friday. Good luck.

WALT: to write a character description and justify with evidence


I have added a video clip called 'The Clock Tower' to the attached PowerPoint for this weeks English. The task today is to write a character description of the girl in the clip using evidence to justify your description.


Just follow the questions on the PowerPoint to help you.

Spelling Test


Below is a video that gives you a little spelling test with some new vocabulary that I have come across this week. Have a go and then check the answers using the second video clip.


I hope it works ok, as I am planning on doing the same for the spelling test on Friday.

WALT: write a short story


All the instructions are on the PowerPoint but use the video clip of the Clock Tower and continue the story from the end of the clip.


There are different SLOW writing grids to use depending on whether you are up for a challenge. You will need to use them tomorrow to self mark and edit and improve.


I will look forward to reading them tomorrow.

WALT: edit and improve our short story


Your task today is to finish the story from yesterday that you have planned out. Then use the SLOW writing grids to find the evidence and then edit and improve your story. When you upload your story, I want to see the SLOW writing grid as well and I want to see that you have edited your work with a different colour and re-written some of your sentences out. This is a very important Year 6 skill and you can always improve your work.


Have a go at your spelling test as well, so get and adult to read out the words I set you on Friday as we are having difficulty uploading a video today.
