Welcome to our Year 5 page! We are going to share with you all the exciting events and work that we have been doing in Year 5.
This terms topics
Our topic this term is ‘Off with her head!’
We will be learning about the Tudors, looking at the social, religious and political features of the time. We will also be learning about human and physical features of London during the Tudor era and comparing it to modern times. In English, we will be reading ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by Shakespeare, as well as writing a biography of Shakespeare. In maths, we will continue to work on using the 4 operations (in the context of money, as well as fractions, decimals and percentages. In science, we will be will be learning about ‘Properties and change of materials’ and be testing why certain materials are chosen to do specific jobs. Our computing lessons have a focus on how ‘To Connect’ with others using computers and technology. Our Art and DT lessons are linked to our Tudor topic: printing with ink, creating collages and baking Tudor bread. In PSHE, in Spring 1, we will be learning about how we can make and sustain friendships, resolve conflicts by ourselves and with adult support and we will focus on anti-bullying. In RE we will be learning about how Islamic beliefs are conveyed and reflect on the religion. Finally, in PE the children will improving their skills in hockey and rounders, as well as performing Tudor dances.
