Year 1 Autumn Term
This term in Year 1 our topic is 'Journeys and Adventures'.
As part of our learning, we will be reading fictional pirate stories, Eric Carle stories, non-fiction texts on Grace Darling, Christopher Columbus, the senses & humans and animals.
PE kits need to be in school every day as lessons may be changed due to events in the hall or weather. Typically, indoor PE is on a Monday and outdoor PE is on a Thursday. When the weather turns cooler, we will only have indoor PE sessions until it is warm enough to begin outdoor PE again.
The children have the opportunity to visit the library once a week and may take one book home at a time. Robins visit the library on a Tuesday, Wrens on Wednesday and Sparrows on Thursday.
Homework is set on a Friday and is to be completed in the homework book and handed back in by the next Wednesday, unless the homework task states otherwise. Homework will also include vocabulary for the following week in case you would like to discuss this with your child. If homework is handed in late, the teacher may not be able to mark it in time for handing it back out.
Please read with your child daily, or as much as possible and add comments to the reading record. Your child can change their reading books in class themselves as frequently as needed. You are welcome to come to Rise and Read sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:40-9:00.

Journeys and Adventures Day
The Year 1 children have had a fantastic day in their pirate costumes. They have been learning about Christopher Columbus, creating Grace Darling moving pictures and making textured pirate art. During the afternoon, the children paraded and sailed their pirate ships in our outdoor area and sang pirate songs.
