In French, we offer our children:
We are incredibly lucky at Middleton to be taught by a specialist French teacher, Mlle Baldwin, in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6. The children in Year 2 also have the opportunity to be introduced to some early French vocabulary.
Our French learning in each year group covers a range topics -
Year 3 includes: greetings, numbers, colours, our family and pets.
Year 4 includes: the weather, sports, simple directions and planning a party.
Year 5 includes: school, our body, the cinema, holidays and jobs.
Year 6 includes: our daily routine, food, animals, role models and heroes.
Étoile du mois
Each month Mlle Baldwin chooses an 'étoile du mois' from each class. These stars of the month are pupils who have shown an outstanding level of commitment, dedication and effort in their French lessons.
Year 2: Finley, Cadi, Janice
Year 3: Julia, Krithik, Eman
Year 4: Lushay, Myra, Maya
Year 5: Amelia, Rosie, Laura
Year 6: Daisy, Kyan
In Year 3 the children had some special visitors come in to teach their French lesson - some Year 9 students from Oakgrove. The learning was based around surviving on a desert island; the children were able to test their knowledge and learn some new vocabulary too!
A new after school Spanish club for Year 5 & 6 has started. So far we have covered a range of topics including greetings, numbers & colours. We have also compared Spanish and English cultures by looking at some traditional festivals, for example San Fermin.
